The Next Amazing Art Tour will be so much fun!

It will expose you to creative hubs in nearby Santa Rosa.

Santa Rosa is known to tourists as the center of the art of winemaking. The wine industry’s focus on fine craftsmanship is also the defining aesthetic for fine art and craft. In our tour we will see how the woodworkers and fine artists of the region push their craft to the fullest extent possible and add their own unique innovative stamp.

First, we’ll first visit the Sonoma County Museum to see handmade wood furniture the likes of which you didn’t realize existed in the 21st century. Drawing on classic techniques and exquisite materials, the members of the Sonoma Woodworkers Assn will astound you with their precision and innovation.

After lunch at a local art cafe, we will visit several artists’ studios in the SOFA Arts District and meet them personally to learn how and why they make their wonderful art.

We will see Karen Lynn Ingalls’ exhibit (below) of vibrantly charged landscape paintings in the Backstreet Gallery and Mario Uribe’s collages and abstract brushstroke art in his studio (below = 2nd row)

Join Us on an Art Tour to get a glimpse into how these creators carve out their creative lives away from an urban center. We will see how they draw inspiration and community in their rural surroundings and relish in an immersion in peaceful, non-urban surroundings.

The Plan:

1. First we will visit the Sonoma County Museum to be toured through “Artistry in Wood,” featuring works by members of the Sonoma County Woodworkers Assn. We will also see the wonderful outdoor sculpture garden at the museum.

2. As we drive along the tree-lined streets of downtown Santa Rosa and passing more public sculpture on display, we will reach ct.the SOFA Arts Distri

3. Our next stop will be for lunch at Cafe Frida (named after Frida Kahlo) for a no-host lunch of fresh local fare.

4. Our studio visits will take us to artists studios and a gallery in the art district that becomes a neighborhood event on First Fridays. We will meet the artists and learn of the unique sources of their inspiration.

Take Note:

Location: At 11 a.m. we will meet at the Museum of Sonoma County in Santa Rosa for a docent-led tour.

Arrange your carpool with your friends, or reach out to me, and I'll connect you with a carpool if possible.

Parking: Parking is available along the street in front of the museum or in the lot across the street. We will take a 10-minute drive to the SOFA Arts District where street parking will also be available.
